[Sermons], [1699-1708].

Manuscript in a single hand, containing twelve sermons on various subjects, including one on the importance of both spiritual and physical sobriety and another addressed "to the prisoners in Chester Castle, 7 of wch were under the sentence of condemnation." A sermon titled "A Caveat agst Quarkers" sets out to show "what methods they take to carry on their errors, what secret design is carrying on by their means." Another sermon titled "On the Thanksgiving for great successes this last campaign" dated Dec. 3, 1702 praises victories in Flanders, Spain, and the West Indies during the first year of Queen Anne's rule. The transcriber records the dates and places the sermons were delivered, primarily in Cheshire, Stafford and Lancashire.

Anne, Queen of Great Britain 1702-1714, was the last Stuart monarch. Raised as a Protestant, she was convinced to support the efforts of William of Orange and her sister Mary to depose her Catholic father, King James II. William and Mary became monarchs, and Anne succeeded to the throne upon William's death.
